The Evolution of T-Shirts: From Basic Undergarments to Fashion Pieces

Have you ever wondered what makes a “T-shirt” a “T-shirt”? Well, the answer is really simple – it’s named so because of its T-shaped design. Also, other than being a basic tee, T-shirts are associated with the cotton material and their informal vibe. In this blog, we will explore the journey of the T-shirt, while focusing on wholesale and bulk T-shirts, as well as popular designs like half-sleeved, full-sleeved, round neck, and polo T-shirts.

Today, T-shirts are probably the most common element of clothing all across the world. But it hasn’t always been like that. This humble piece of garment has been with us for just a little over a century. From its introduction in the 19th century as a working man’s garment to being one of the most purchased pieces of garment, the T-shirt has indeed come a long way in a short time. Let’s take a look at how this clothing piece evolved over the years.

    The Birth of Tees

Believe it or not, our stylish-looking T-shirts come from a rather ridiculous-looking (by our contemporary standards) piece of clothing known as the union suit. In the late 19th century, workers in mines and docks began cutting the top piece of their union suit, as those suits were extremely difficult to work in. And there you have it — the first version of the T-shirt.

Once the efficacy of wearing lighter clothing was realized, it didn’t take long for the US military to figure the same. Soon, T-shirts were a staple undergarment worn by the military in the US. They made for a relaxed and comfortable piece to wear under a soldier’s uniform and were excellent for fieldwork in hot weather. Fast forward to World War I, the tees’ popularity spread all over. T-shirts were no longer considered as a piece of undergarment, and people had now begun to see how this garment was comfortable to be worn during all kinds of manual labor, including agriculture. Thus, this led to T-shirts becoming a popular garment for boys — cheap, excellent for running around, and much easier to clean than good old shirts. In 1920, the word “T-shirt” became an accepted terminology and made it into Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary. Now we talk!!!

1930’s to 1950’s: T-shirts Enter the Fashion World

    T-shirts Enter the Fashion World

T-shirts continued to be worn by men during and after World War II – they were cheap, comfortable, and good for physical work. However, it was only during the early 50’s that T-shirts became cool, thanks to Hollywood. After Marlon Brando wore one in the movie “A Streetcar Named Desire”, the T-shirt made its entry into the fashion world. Now this garment could never go back to not being cool again.

    Wholesale T-shirts and Bulk Production

Once T-shirts made their foray into the fashion world, the demand grew rapidly, leading to wholesale and bulk production of tees. Manufacturers had to start producing large quantities of T-shirts to be able to meet the increasing market demand. This is how wholesale T-shirts became a cost-effective solution for businesses and retailers. This shift paved the way for a more diverse and accessible T-shirt market. Let’s look at the various styles of tees:

    Half-Sleeved T-Shirts

The half-sleeved T-shirt or the short-sleeved t-shirt, is popular and synonymous with casual wear. Commercialized in the mid-20th century, it quickly became a wardrobe staple for people of all ages. The versatility and comfort factors of half-sleeved T-shirts have made them a favorite for everyday use.

    Full-Sleeved T-Shirts

As opposed to short-sleeved T-shirts, full-sleeved T-shirts became popular as they have additional coverage and the extended fabric allows for more creative designs.. Initially worn only in colder climates, full-sleeved T-shirts gradually became an all-year-round fashion choice.

    Round Neck T-Shirts

The round neck – T-shirts also known as crew neck tees, are a classic style. The design of this tee offers a simple and clean look. This style gained popularity for being both casual and athletic, making it a common choice for apparel fashion enthusiasts.

    Polo T-Shirts

The polo T-shirt with its collared neckline was introduced in the world of tennis. Popular tennis player René Lacoste presented the polo shirt in the 1920s as an alternative to the conventional long-sleeved tennis outfit. The garment’s association with sports and its smart-casual aesthetic have made it a popular choice for various occasions.

    The Evolution of T-shirts Continues

Our age being the age of easy customization, customized-printed t-shirts display our love for popular movies and series, favorite bands, or favorite designer brands. T-shirts have over the years endeared themselves to men, women and kids alike, establishing their permanent place in almost every wardrobe world over. Moreover, this piece of clothing has reinvented itself in different materials — the so-called performance t-shirts have now turned into their athleisure fashion trends. It’s safe to say that the good old, simple tee is going places.

    Wrapping Up

From a second-rate working undergarment to probably the most popular piece of clothing, the t-shirt has made its way into our hearts with significant leaps. And it’s possibly got even more future than its past. According to recent trends, the tee is most likely to be a key theme of exploration for future fashion clothing. What shall we say? We say bring it on!!

  • Tradyl’s Debut at the Global Sourcing Expo, Melbourne: A Dive into Fashion

Tradyl’s Debut at the Global Sourcing Expo, Melbourne: A Dive into Fashion

Against the backdrop of the Australian summer, Tradyl made its debut at the Global Sourcing Expo (GSE) in Melbourne, Australia, from November 21-23. Our team not only basked in the warmth of the Southern Hemisphere but also unveiled our latest collection at GSE—a harmonious ode to the boundless depths of the ocean, capturing the true essence of Australian summers.

The GSE was a blend of business and insights for Team Tradyl. It served as a great meeting ground for manufacturers worldwide to connect with Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) buyers from Australia. The event was more than just a platform for commerce; it was an enlightening experience with informative seminars featuring keynote speakers. Tradyl’s team engaged in meaningful interactions with buyers, delving into the nuances of Australia’s dynamic buying market—unraveling fabric preferences and understanding their strong inclination towards sustainability.

Embracing the Entrepreneurial Spirit in Australia

As mentioned earlier, the GSE attracted a majority of visitors comprising small shops and micro-entrepreneurs- boutique businesses, direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, online retailers, and aspiring entrepreneurs in the fashion industry. What stood out was their enthusiasm and excitement about venturing into new businesses within the fashion space. Given that many of them were just starting their entrepreneurial journeys, they were keen on sourcing lower quantities from manufacturers like us.

Since Tradyl primarily focuses on assisting buyers in procuring smaller quantities, our interaction with them was highly rewarding. Engaging with these localities provided insights into the vibrant culture of Australia, as they brought a diverse array of requirements and innovations to the table, greatly aiding our understanding of the demands of this emerging buying market.

    Sustainable Fashion in Focus

Australia’s dedication to sustainability shone brightly at the GSE. Buyers had great awareness of sustainable practices, with numerous inquiries focused on innovative fabrics and eco-friendly solutions. The event’s seminars reflected this heightened awareness, emphasizing the industry’s collective responsibility towards sustainable fashion practices. Additionally, we had the opportunity to showcase our commitment to sustainability by presenting some of the eco-friendly materials and products, such as organic cotton and recycled cotton & polyester. The positive response to these initiatives further emphasized the growing importance of environmentally conscious choices within the fashion landscape.

Efficiency of the GSE Organization & App

The event’s organization impressed us from day one, with an efficient structure and a user-friendly app. The app not only housed the event schedule and badges but also facilitated seamless networking. The badge-scanning feature allowed us to instantly connect with attendees by sending them our introductory emails, streamlining the networking process. This experience enabled us to focus on interacting with the buyers rather than struggling to obtain their details. Furthermore, the event demonstrated excellent organization, providing stall owners with clear instructions regarding setup, arrival dates, app details, and all necessary information well in advance.

Tradyl’s presence at the GSE was also to unveil our latest collection, Sea La Vie. We have all had those moments when we stand on the beach and we can’t help but daydream about the eccentric beauty of the flora and fauna. This connection to the sea is what inspired our latest collection, bringing to life the essence of the ocean through a stunning array of prints, silhouettes, and colors. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our collection to Australian buyers, providing them with a glimpse of Tradyl’s capabilities.

  • A Guide to Sourcing Women’s Wholesale Clothing for Boutique Owners

A Guide to Sourcing Women’s Wholesale Clothing for Boutique Owners

If you dream of starting a boutique to turn your passion into a career, then this is the right blog to be reading. Starting a women’s boutique can be a lucrative venture, considering the fact that there is always a demand for fashion apparel. Be it trendy loungewear, stylish dresses, cozy coats, or tops and tunics – catering to women’s fashion needs always helps a business scale. To help kickstart your business and ensure that it succeeds, we have curated a list of essential tips for sourcing women’s wholesale clothing for a boutique. Read on.

    Understanding Your Target Audience

Understanding your target audience of clothing business

Before you start your boutique and begin sourcing wholesale clothing, it is essential to identify and define your niche. Conduct market research to identify current fashion trends, customer preferences, and the unique needs of the women you aim to serve. Based on your target audience, you can tailor your products, marketing strategies, and overall brand identity.

    Curating a Diverse Collection

Women love variety, so make sure that your apparel collection caters to various styles, sizes, seasons, and occasions. For example, if your boutique specializes in western clothing for women, then ensure that the apparel is available in different styles – from casual dresses for relaxed days to elegant party dresses for special events in various sizes. Thus, when you look for suppliers for wholesale women’s western clothing, you must check if the suppliers can supply the items in regular as well as plus sizes clothing, different colors, styles, and so on. A diverse collection ensures a larger customer base.

    Pricing Strategies for Profitability

For your business to succeed, a profitable pricing strategy is crucial. You must consider factors such as the cost of goods, desired profit margin, and market competition. Be sure to strike a balance between offering competitive prices and maintaining profitability. Also, take into account your target audience’s budget, and ensure that the pricing aligns with their ability to purchase.

    Quality Assurance in Selection

In this competitive industry, quality and style are crucial. We suggest that you invest in high-quality fabrics and materials that look great and offer comfort and durability. Ensure to stay up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and include them in your collection to attract fashion enthusiasts. For example, if you plan to incorporate women’s leggings into your collection, before you zero in on wholesale fashion leggings suppliers, be sure to check their track record of supplying high-quality items.

Effective Inventory Management and Matching Your Storage Capabilities

An effective management of inventory helps minimize costs which further keeps accounts and finances in check. Understanding your inventory helps you understand which items are doing well and may soon go out of stock, versus the ones that are just occupying shelf space. You don’t want to be sitting with two shelves of wholesale women’s gym clothing in your boutique, which does not sell.

Also, most wholesale suppliers offer products in bulk, and the higher the bulk, the bigger the discount. However, this policy may not work for you. Select a wholesale supplier that offers small-batch purchases. You may not get the biggest discount, but you won’t be overwhelmed with inventory piled up in your storage room. To deal with such issues, platforms such as Tradyl can help boutique startups source quality products from verified suppliers starting at low minimum order quantities.

Online Presence Enhancement and Social Media Marketing for Boutiques

Increase online presence and Social Media Marketing for clothing boutiques

In today’s digital landscape, as a boutique owner, you must prioritize your online presence and social media marketing to excel and scale. A user-friendly and visually appealing website optimized for search engines serves as the foundation layer to success. You can do everything correctly when it comes to buying wholesale clothing, but in the end, a large amount or all your sales will come from your website. Also, leveraging social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest will enable you to showcase your unique collections, engage with the audience, and expand your reach.

    Customer Relationship Building

Exceptional customer service helps set your boutique business apart from competitors. Respond promptly to online inquiries, address customer concerns personally, and process orders efficiently. Also, ensure a pleasant experience for walk-in customers by politely addressing any issues they may have. Building a reputation for excellent customer service leads to positive word-of-mouth referrals and repeat business.

    Adapting to Changing Fashion Trends

Fashion is ever-changing, and staying up-to-date on trends is crucial for boutique owners. Research and analyze current and upcoming fashion trends to ensure your apparel remains relevant and appealing. An excellent collection results in positive reviews, which ensures that your boutique is displayed in the search results at the top for keywords such as “stylish women’s clothing wholesale” or “wholesale women’s western clothing”.

    Utilizing Technology for Efficiency

Utilizing technology for efficiency in ecommerce clothing business

For your boutique to scale, you must leverage the power of technology to streamline operations and boost efficiency. For example, you can deploy an advanced inventory management system that facilitates tracking of stock levels, thus ensuring that popular items are continuously available. Leveraging technology not only brings efficiency to daily tasks but also helps you scale-up your business faster.

    Networking within the Fashion Industry

Networking plays a critical role in attracting new customers and retaining existing ones. Connect with fashion professionals, other boutique owners, and industry influencers. Attend networking events and participate in fashion tradeshows and networking events where you can share insights and gain knowledge to help your business perform better. A strong network opens doors to new opportunities and partnerships. In addition, there are many online platforms that enable connections between apparel manufacturers and buyers globally that boutique owners can benefit from.

    Conclusion

As you begin your journey to build a successful women’s clothing boutique, remember to prioritize understanding your target market, establishing strong supplier relationships, focusing on quality and style, offering versatility, creating a user-friendly online clothing platform, and promoting your brand effectively. By combining these tips with your passion for fashion, you can take your retail venture to new heights, offering stylish and in-demand products that delight your customers.

Small retailers, Big dreams – Tradyl.com, taking Made in India fashion to the world

Apparel is a 1.5 Trillion USD market globally, with a world apparel trade of 570 Billion USD. The top 5 apparel-exporting countries are China, EU, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Turkey. While India is the 2nd largest manufacturer of textile products in the world, employing 45 Mn people in the industry, it holds the 6th position in apparel exports, contributing merely 3%. Nearly, 99% of apparel manufacturers are unorganized SMEs who find the complexities of export daunting. The primary reasons are the lack of knowledge of export processes (like documentation, customs clearance, and forex payments), language barriers, and expensive marketing efforts required to attract overseas customers.

On the other hand, mid-small-sized apparel retailers around the world are finding it hard to keep up with the pace of fast fashion retailers. In order to survive, they must offer a wide range of unique styles & trendy fashion wholesale clothing, while balancing the risk of high investments in inventory. Retailers in the Western markets depend on imports to fulfill their consumer demand. For them, product sourcing has traditionally been a tedious process involving expensive trips across multiple countries. Thus far, sourcing a wider range of trendy products in lower quantities has been largely limited to smaller manufacturers and online portals from China.

Bengaluru-based startup, Tradyl– a wholesale e-commerce platform, is bringing in a paradigm shift in this equation by bridging the gap between global SMB apparel retailers and Indian SME manufacturers & B2B clothing wholesale suppliers. Through Tradyl, SME manufacturers, D2C brands and  B2B clothing wholesale suppliers from India can export without any additional infrastructure or investment. By doing this, they are able to offer hitherto unheard-of quantities from India on a wide range of trendy fashion wholesale clothing and unique designs. Through its end-to-end approach, Tradyl ensures reliable quality and on-time deliveries, thus meeting all the critical requirements of smaller retailers, acting as their eyes and voice on the ground.

  • Guide To Sourcing Wholesale Christmas And New Year Dresses This Season(2024)

Guide To Sourcing Wholesale Christmas And New Year Dresses This Season(2024)

Ho Ho Ho!!! And another year draws to an end. As the lights twinkle and the magic of Xmas spreads its cheer, it is time for businesses to roll up their “Stockings” to cater to the holiday demands of customers. With the Xmas and New Year’s sales around the corner, most customers are thinking about new clothes and the perfect festive attire. Are you giving wholesale sourcing a thought?

Well, if your answer is YES!!!, then this is the perfect time for you to start, and your best bet would be wholesale Christmas dresses as well as New Year dresses. So, how can you as a business owner make this holiday season joyous for your customers and profitable for yourself with wholesale sourcing?

    Read on.

    Understanding Market Trends

It is crucial to understand the latest fashion trends and ongoing scenarios to source items that will sell this season. And to facilitate sourcing this information, fashion market research is important. Identify the color schemes, latest styles, and fabric preferences this season. Keeping tabs on celebrities and fashion influencers on social media, attending fashion shows, and scanning through pictures published in the latest magazines will give you a good idea of what’s really “In”. For example, if you know what kind of sweaters most influencers are wearing this winter, it makes sense to source wholesale Christmas sweaters of the same kind, as these sweaters will be one of the most “Searched For” items this season.

Researching and Negotiating with Wholesale Suppliers

    Research_negotiation_in_sourcing_wholesale_clothing

Once you decide to source wholesale festive attires, the next thing on your list should be to identify wholesale suppliers. Don’t forget that by purchasing products in larger quantities, you get the advantage of volume discounts and lower per-unit costs – thus, maximizing your profit margins. However, finding the right wholesaler is always a challenge. Attending trade shows, asking for referrals, and joining professional networks are a few conventional ways to connect with suppliers. Now, we come to the negotiating bit. Negotiating with suppliers is an undesirable but necessary chore for business owners. Once potential suppliers have been identified, as a business owner, you need to engage in negotiations to secure favorable terms and pricing. For example, if you are placing a “bulk Christmas shirts” order, effective negotiations will help determine the best price and payment terms, delivery and production time, and the quality standard of the shirts ordered. Also, planning for potential delays should be a part of your negotiations with the supplier. However, effective negotiation tactics and securing favorable terms is not always a cakewalk. And, if you feel you want to skip all headaches, partnering with a platform such as Tradyl can literally save you.

    Building Relationships with Suppliers

Establishing strong relationships with dependable wholesale suppliers is crucial to securing quality merchandise. For that, you need to research and identify suppliers who specialize in wholesale Christmas outfits. Before you zero in on a supplier, be sure to check their track record of delivering on time, providing high-quality products, along with competitive pricing.

    Ordering Sample Dresses

Ordering samples effectively rules out the possibility of receiving products that do not align with the requirements you have submitted. Thanks to samples, it is safe to assume that what you see is what you get! It’s the holidays after all and you want to be happy with your bulk orders as you spread happiness to your customers.

    Quality Assurance and Inspection

    Quality_assurance_in_sourcing_wholesale_clothing

Though your sample order with your wholesaler may have been perfect, as a business owner, you need to have a Quality Assurance (QA) and inspection process in place once you receive your bulk order. You don’t want to be stuck with a big order of wholesale Christmas shirts which your customers will certainly return since the product does not meet the quality standards specified – not a festive memory you want to create.

    Conclusion

Sourcing wholesale Christmas outfits as well as festive attires for your business needs careful planning, research, as well as strategic decision-making. By understanding market trends, building strong relationships with suppliers, researching, negotiating, preparing a budget, implementing effective marketing strategies, and with proper QA practices and exchange/return policies in place, your business is all set to scale this festive season.

Tradyl: Revolutionizing Sourcing for Global Apparel SMBs

The global fashion industry is worth a whopping 1.5 trillion USD with the supply coming mainly from exporting countries like China, the EU, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Turkey. While India holds the second-largest position in textile production, employing roughly 45 million people,  it ranks a modest sixth in the world for apparel exports, contributing a mere 3% to the market. Why is that?

The gap is due to the fact that nearly 99% of Indian apparel manufacturers in the textile industry are small and unorganized SMEs and struggle with the complexities of exporting. Whereas on the demand side, international small to mid-sized apparel retailers find it hard to keep up with fast fashion giants and there trendy products.

Traditionally, sourcing a diverse range of unique and trendy products in smaller quantities has been the domain of smaller manufacturers and online portals in China. However, Bengaluru-based startup, Tradyl is set to disrupt this by bridging the gap between global SMB apparel retailers and Indian SME manufacturers. Now Indian SME manufacturers and D2C brands can export their products to the world without the need for additional infrastructure or investments, therefore, allowing them to offer low quantities of stylish, unique products. • More Than Just Accessories- Exploring Women’s Fashion Bags Trends

More Than Just Accessories- Exploring Women’s Fashion Bags Trends

“A woman’s mind is as complex as the contents of her handbag; even when you get to the bottom of it, there is ALWAYS something at the bottom to surprise you!”

    -Billy Connoly

A must-have fashion staple in every woman’s wardrobe is handbags. These are more of an emotion than an accessory for most women. Rightfully so nothing can elevate the look of a simple dress as the right handbag along with a pair of killer shoes.

A woman’s handbag is an ambivalent mix of being an extremely intimate space on the inside and making a style statement on the outside. The inside of the bag holds everything from makeup items and snacks to tampons. Where else would she dig in for those tissues during that extremely emotional scene in the movie or for a quick bite on the go? A handbag is thus an expression of one’s aesthetics and is the keeper of many a secret. God forbid if a woman were to lose her handbag because it spells ‘mayhem’. She will writhe in pain as if someone has taken a piece of her from her very body. Would we be far from the truth if we say that to understand a woman, look into her handbag?

Remember how ‘Bagwati’ from the Indian movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is given her own seat in the car, decked in cool sunglasses, and topped off with a hat? “She” is handled with kid gloves least something should happen to “her” which would in turn upset the fiancé of one of the protagonists. That kind of sums up the emotions women attach to their bags.

So now that we have established the position a handbag holds in the life of every woman, let’s look at some of the aspects of what makes for a good handbag. The ideal bag will be the right mix of practical and pretty. Any woman worth her salt will not be caught dead with an ugly bag in her hand. But at the same time, she wants it to be a receptacle of secrets, comforting items, and security.

Do you know what is the average number of handbags a woman has in her wardrobe? Some studies say it is about six. While some might have a bag for every day, we will stick to three broad categories of bags that will serve women well on every occasion.

    A working bag:

This is usually a medium to large bag depending on what job a woman holds and how many hours it serves her. This mainly includes bags like totes, structured bags, satchel bags, backpacks, laptop handbags, etc.

    A casual outing bag:

The size of this bag can vary from a tiny satchel for a quick run to the groceries to a medium-sized bucket bag for a vacation on the beach. The styles can vary from uber-chic to boho-chic. The choices here are mind-boggling from sling bags, cross-body bags, shoulder bags, bucket bags, fanny packs, fringe bags, drawstring bags, and so much more.

    A cocktail bag:

Think of sequins and shiny materials. Be it a night out with her girl pals, a date with that special someone, or that important business cocktail meet, a sleek shiny baguette or a purse is a must-have. Cocktail bags include envelope clutches, wristlets, crystal bags, clear clutches, box purses, etc.

The world of fashion is constantly evolving, and when it comes to bags, there are numerous trends and styles that are currently making waves. Here are some of the latest trends and types of bags that you might want to consider for your collection-

    Natural materials:

Bags made of sustainable materials such as rattan, cane, and bamboo are seeing a huge surge in demand and are being sported by all and sundry advocates of eco-friendly products, celebrities included. They come in beautiful weaves and colors.

    Cross-body satchels:

Versatility is the perfect name for this kind of bag. These come in all sizes and materials, becoming the perfect fit for your needs. From running errands, exploring the city, or attending a special event, a cross-body satchel adds a touch of style and functionality to an outfit.

    Totes:

There’s nothing more practical than an oversized tote bag for an all-day out at work and some after. With ample amount of space to carry all essentials and more, totes are not just about utility but are incredibly stylish and come in a wide range of designs to suit everyone’s personal taste.

    Bucket bags:

This variety has been trending again in recent times with many celebrities sporting bucket bags. This classic style has made a comeback and has been reimagined with modern twists. Whether you prefer a minimalist look or something more extravagant, these bags offer a unique and stylish alternative to traditional handbag shapes.

    Quilted bags:

These types of bags were started by Chanel and beauty truly lies in the details of these bags. The recent runways have showcased many quilted bags making it a go-to style if understated elegance is your jam. The intricate stitching adds a layer of sophistication to any outfit, making it suitable for a wide range of occasions.

    A worn look:

Think of slouchy, crinkled bags that exude character and history. Designers are using techniques like pre-scratching to give these bags a weathered look that says “I have been there.
